Welcome to the Discovery Room! This is where students work one-on-one with a licensed educational therapist, Elizabeth Yates. What do we do? We engage in multiple techniques to strengthen the brain. Programs include "Search & Teach" for 5 and 6 year olds, and "Discovery Therapy" for ages 7 on up to adult. 

Real American Manners Camp
June 28 - July 2
Students will learn: proper deportment; how to write proper invitations, thank you notes and letters; how to give a party; how to make a phone call; how to be a good guest; how to receive and give gifts; how to dress for different occasions; and table manners for any occasion.

Camp includes a daily field trip with lunch to a variety of local restaurants, including a formal meal at Hidden Creek Country Club.

History Camp
July 6 -16
Campers will be able to explore the rich history of the United States in Northern Virginia. Field Trips: Mount Vernon, Gunston Hall, Sully Historic Site and Colvin Run Mill.

Sports Camp
July 19 - 30
Campers will enjoy rigorous and fun sports activities that will allow them to develop the talents that God has given them.  Students will also take part in field trips to skate, bowl, play miniature golf and adventure hike through local parks.

Space Camp
August 2 - 13
Campers will discover the universe and the planets, including our own.  They will learn about flight and space exploration.  Four field trips to the Air and Space Museum and Dulles Airport.  Campers will be taken to see IMAX films and interactive presentations.

Nature Camp
August 16 - 27
Campers will explore the natural world and take advantage of our 28-acre campus where they will learn about the local trees, plants and wildlife.  Field trips:  Great Falls National Park, Lake Fairfax Regional Park, Walker Nature Education Center and Reston Zoo.

Students entering advanced third through twelfth grades are expected to participate in our summer reading program. Students will receive 5 extra credit points in English per quarter for each book read. Extra credit will be given for up to four books.

Summer reading books can be borrowed from the school or you can purchase them below.

Here are some highlights from the final festivities for the Fairfax Christian School’s Class of 2010. Seniors attended our annual Senior Dinner with their parents and school faculty at the Hidden Creek Country Club and had their commencement ceremony on June 10, 2010, at Reston Presbyterian Church. Our valedictorian was Do Yeon Kim and the salutatorians were Moon Kyung Jung and Rory Rowan. Congratulations to all!

Dr. Walter Hays, who teaches Earth Science and Physics, was invited by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to represent them as an expert in a session at the 3rd International Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction to be convened in Davos, Switzerland on May 30 - June 4. 

The session focuses on  mega-catastrophes and large-scale natural hazards, such as: the Indian Ocean Tsunami; Hurricane Katrina; the Wenchuan, China, Port au Prince, Haiti, and Chile earthquakes; the Iceland volcano eruption;  and the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico.  These occurrences have revealed gaps in disaster preparedness, disaster response, and disaster recovery that have led to catastrophes for the communities at risk. The panel will elaborate on best practices in science, engineering, and education to build capacity and  foster implementation of policies for global risk reduction.

Our intensive summer English programs meet from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. There are two sessions. Summer courses are taught by Fairfax Christian High School teachers. The program is offered for beginning and intermediate English students entering grades
five and up.

Students begin the session with comprehensive placement tests. Topics covered depend on the student’s level and include phonics, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, conversation, public speaking, and TOEFL preparation.

Second Session: August 2 – 27, 2010 $1,400
Door-to-Door School Bus Transportation $490 per session

Grades
A final grade will be issued at the conclusion of the course. High school students may receive one-half of an academic credit per session.

Lunch
Participants bring a bag lunch from home or may purchase lunch from our online vendor.

Transportation
Transportation is available to limited areas, upon sufficient demand. Bus service for individual students cannot be guaranteed before June 15, 2010. Tentative transportation arrangements will be made before this date.

Dressing for Summer School
Casual dress is permitted during the summer. Any short pants must be knee length. Sweat pants and T-shirts with slogans or pictures are not acceptable. Dress should be neat, modest and presentable. Students should prepare for air conditioning.

Sixth grader Brittany Bryant and fourth grader Audrey Bryant are members of the Children's Chorus of Washington.  They preformed at a special event at the Central Intelligence Agency headquarters on Wednesday, January 13, 2010.

The Children’s Chorus of Washington is considered one of the finest children’s choral ensembles in the country, and is recognized for its program and artistic excellence. The Children’s Chorus comprises three performing ensembles and its 170 young singers, ages 9-18, represent over 100 government and private schools in the greater Washington, DC area.

Reston Town Center posted this YouTube Video of the Fairfax Christian School Colonial Fife and Drum Corps playing in front of Town Center’s fountain.

December 18th was the last day of school before the Christmas holiday. Students gathered for an assembly which included a performance from the A Cappella Choir and the Fife and Drum Corps.

Miss Morrow class recited the Christmas story. Student sang traditional Christmas carols, including the 12 Days of Christmas. The tradiational “Wrapping of the Teachers” was held. This year the 3rd and 4th graders won the competition, using all the wrapping paper and tape first. The high school ESL students desire an honorable mention with the most artistic wrapping job. Mr. Bollen was wrapped by the 5th and 6th graders who had a disadvantage, due to Mr. Bollen’s great height. Fun was had by all as students enjoyed this joyous time of year.
